At HAYES BARTON CROSSFIT, we implement the CrossFit methodology to help our members achieve greatness not only when visiting the gym, but also in day to day life. During classes, athletes will gain experience through and be challenged in weightlifting, yoga,  the use of kettlebells, cardiovascular training and nutrition.

  • If you are looking to join our HBCF family, your first class is always free and complimentary. 

  • Bringing a friend/family or been doing CrossFit for a while or are in town, the drop-in rate is $20 for a CrossFit class, $15 for our cardio/interval class, Velocity, and $12 for yoga. Please provide us as much notice as you can to when you are coming. Please email or call!

  • I love  Christmas smelling candles...but I am really bad at remembering to blow out said candles.

  • Fall is the best season because it means pumpkins and football! 

  • I am left-handed

  • I had dreams of being a professional tennis player or country singer growing up.... clearly not my path.

  • I can write upside down surprisingly well

  • I'm a Chinese-fire drill pro

Where are you from:

I like to claim both New Orleans and Pittsburgh as home towns; born in the city of jazz and grew up in the city of steel. Come football time you can catch me rooting for the Saints and the Steelers!

 

How long have you been doing CrossFit and training clients:

I found CrossFit in May 2017 and never looked back. I enjoy the functionality and variability of the sport and finding new ways to challenge myself and my members. 

I have just started working personally, 1:1, with clients in September. I love applying the knowledge I gained from school and my Level 1 CrossFit class to improve the fitness and health of my clients. I love encouraging and supporting them on their health journey. There is something out there for everyone. My time with clients allows me to challenge them in a variety of ways. 

 

What is your favorite CrossFit workout or movement

Throw me some handstand pushups , high rep box jumps and kettlebell swings, some good tunes and I am set! Oh, and maybe some heavy cleans!

 

What activities do you enjoy outside of CrossFit:

You can catch me relaxing on my front porch with a cup of coffee and a book, or in the kitchen baking a homemade recipe.  I also have a strong interest in nutrition, specifically plant-based, and learning about the powerful relationship between our food choices and overall health. 

 

What is Hayes Barton CrossFit all about?

Step inside the walls of Hayes Barton CrossFit and you will experience a genuine kindness and welcoming attitude from members and coaches. During workouts you will be challenged both mentally and physically, but all in an environment of athletes who are committed to supporting each other tackle these challenges and have fun while doing so. Our hope is that here you build strong relationship with one another as well as have the opportunity to serve those in our surrounding community. 

You will sweat a lot, laugh a lot, maybe even cry after a tough workout, but at the end of each hour you will be able to take pride in what you accomplished and hopefully experience the joy and overall good vibes that come from pushing yourself.

Where are you from:

I grew up in Baltimore, MD, and moved to Raleigh three years ago from Greenville, SC.

 

How long have you been doing CrossFit:

4 years

 

What is your favorite CrossFit workout:

"Nicole" and anything with heavy deadlifts.

 

What activities do you enjoy outside of CrossFit:

Hiking with my wife, Hannah, and my dogs.  I love backpacking, going to breweries, watching Netflix, and anything involving my dogs!

 

Why did you choose to coach at HBCF:

To hopefully have a positive impact on people's lives in the way CrossFit and the HBCF community have enriched my life.

Fun facts/talents:

I was born three months early at 2lbs 6oz!

How long have you been practicing yoga?:

For about 24 years. 

 

What initially led to be interested in and then teaching yoga?:

It began at the age of 12 with a yoga book full of poses that I began trying out and never stopped. I had no music, no mat and no equipment, but I loved it. As time passed, I followed the desire to lead others into their own practice and decided to become certified. I earned my 200-hr certification in 2018 and never looked back.  

 

What is your favorite thing about yoga? Favorite pose?:

There is a feeling of completeness for me that comes along with my practice. Within me, I recognize my ability and strength to be content, peaceful and find enlightenment. My favorite pose is probably Triangle. It's harder and more complex than most people think; I like to call it the mood ring of yoga poses. 

 

If you were given the opportunity to teach anywhere in the world, where??

Bali! There is so much opportunity there- retreats , wellness centers and additional training. It would be amazing. 

 

Outside of yoga, what does life look like for you?

When not teaching, I am a full-time senior editor at a pharma marketing agency. Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband and 2 year old-she's my favorite. My pets include a cat and a snail, and I also enjoy reading and journaling and stalking houses on Zillow!
